Quartz Hill Elementary is an AVID certified school. In all of our classrooms, students are developing skills to help ensure that they are college and career ready. The staff of Quartz Hill has diligently worked to put organizational systems in place to assist our students in becoming thoughtful, skilled, academic scholars.

Capturing Kids Hearts Logo

Capturing Kids’ Hearts is an educational framework focused on building strong, trusting relationships between teachers and students to create a safe and connected learning environment. At the elementary school level, teachers use daily routines like warm greetings at the door, student-led social contracts, and sharing "Good Things" to foster positive behavior and self-management. This approach helps young learners feel valued and empowered, laying the foundation for both academic success and strong character.

EDRIP - Extended Reading Intervention Program

The Extended Reading Intervention Program is a special, invitation-only after-school club designed to give students extra, targeted support in key reading skills based on their NWEA MAP assessments. Rather than focusing on daily homework, teachers lead fun, focused activities tailored to help each child boost their reading fluency and confidence. It is a wonderful opportunity for selected students to get the extra encouragement and practice they need to thrive as readers!

Latino Literacy Program

The Latino Literacy Program at Westside Union School District brings families together to build strong, lifelong reading habits at home. Through workshops using bilingual books, parents gain valuable strategies to support their children's reading fluency and vocabulary in both English and Spanish. This welcoming initiative strengthens the connection between home and school while empowering parents to take an active role in their child's academic success.

Welcome to Music Class

At Quartz Hill Elementary, every student from TK through 6th grade enjoys biweekly music lessons to build a foundation for creative expression. 5th and 6th graders can take their musical journey further by joining the school band, complete with free instrument checkouts so interested students can participate. The program proudly culminates in an exciting annual band concert hosted at Joe Walker Middle School, where students showcase their hard work and talent for family and friends!

All It Takes

The LDTPE (Leadership Development Through Physical Education) program at Quartz Hill Elementary enhances standard P.E. by teaching students essential life and social-emotional skills through active play. Guided by the All It Takes framework, students learn teamwork, personal accountability, and positive communication through engaging, hands-on physical activities. This dynamic approach empowers young learners to build self-confidence and develop strong leadership habits both on the playground and in the classroom.

QHE Junior Royals Principal's Pride

The Principal’s Pride award celebrates students who shine bright each month by demonstrating Quartz Hill Elementary’s core Student Learner Outcomes! Every teacher nominates one outstanding student per month who acts as an active listener, stays engaged in their learning, strives to achieve, and stays determined to do their best. It is a wonderful monthly honor that recognizes our young scholars for showing exceptional character and commitment to their school community.

Quartz Hill Elementary keeps students motivated to attend school daily through an engaging incentive program featuring visits from Attendance Heroes for the classes with the highest attendance percentage each week. Students can also earn monthly perfect attendance awards, treats, and campus celebrations for their consistency. Additionally, strong attendance gives students chances to earn free meals and desserts from local participating restaurants!

Playworks transforms recess into an inclusive, active environment where every student has the opportunity to play and build positive social skills. Trained coaches facilitate organized games that foster teamwork, conflict resolution, and leadership among kids during the school day. This structured play translates into a safer playground, better behavior, and seamless transitions back into classroom learning.

Disagreeing Appropriately

  3. Say, “I understand how you feel”.
  4. Tell why you feel differently.

Making an Apology

  2. Use a serious, sincere voice.
  3. Say “I’m sorry for…”, or “I want to apologize for…”

Having a Conversation

Asking for Help

  2. Ask the person if he or she has time to help you.
  3. Clearly explain the kind of help you need.
  4. Thank the person for help.

Asking Permission

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Use and calm and pleasant voice.
  3. Say, “May I…?”
  4. Accept the answer calmly.

Staying on Task

  1. Look at your task or assignment.
  2. Think about the steps needed to complete the task.
  3. Focus all of your attention on your task.
  4. Stop working only when instructed.
  5. Ignore distractions and interruptions by others.

Sharing Something

  1. Let the other person use the item first.
  2. Ask if you can use it later.
  3. When you get to use it, offer it back to the other person after you’re finished.

Working with Others

  1. Identify the task to be completed.
  2. Assign tasks to each person.
  3. Discuss ideas in a calm, quiet voice and let everyone share their ideas.
  4. Work on tasks until completed.

Listening

  1. Look at the person who is talking and remain quiet.
  2. Wait until the person is finished talking before you speak.
  3. Show that you heard the person by nodding your head, saying “Okay” or “That’s interesting,” etc.

Appropriate Voice Tone

  3. Watch and listen for visual or verbal cues and adjust your voice as needed.
