Letter from Administration
Welcome to Quartz Hill Elementary, home of the Junior Royals. I feel privileged to have the opportunity to serve the community as the principal of Quartz Hill Elementary. Our school has fantastic students that come to school with positive attitudes ready to learn each and every day. We are lucky to have many hard working parent volunteers that allow us to have an active PTA that generously support programs that enhance our students' education and extracurricular activities. Quartz Hill has a teaching staff that is enthusiastic and dedicated to ensure that all students on our campus have the opportunity to achieve at a high level.
Quartz Hill serves approximately 800 students from preschool through sixth grade. Our school strives to educate the whole child by not only offering a strong core academic instructional program, but also offering enrichment opportunities to give our students a broader view of the world through programs such as band grades 4th-6th, music grades UPK-3rd, environmental club, and school newspaper. Post COVID we are happy to see programs returning to our school. Quartz Hill aims to provide opportunities to grow into leadership opportunities through our PALS program. This program is designed for our students to be positive role models for their peers. As a staff, we work collaboratively with students, parents, and the community to best support each student in order for each student to reach their maximum potential.
Quartz Hill is an AVID Elementary certified site. AVID helps to ensure that our school has consistent instructional/organizational structures in place to best support students. As a site, we cultivate an environment that supports students being career and college ready. Each Thursday, students are encouraged to wear regalia from their favorite college which helps students to recognize that college is attainable for all students. Monthly, students take a virtual tour of college campuses to become acquainted with the various options that are available for college across the United States . Historically, during the fourth quarter, our school site hosts an annual Career Day in which adults from a variety of career fields come on to our campus to share information regarding their career, the importance of setting goals, and how to overcome obstacles. We look forward to bringing back this event in the 22-23 school year.
In addition to our dedication to academic instruction, Quartz Hill believes that in order for a school to be successful it must exude a growth mindset. Quartz Hill uses the Boys Town curriculum to explicitly teach our students positive social skills. We know that all students come from a variety of backgrounds with many different skill sets, the Boys Town curriculum teaches students how to successfully interact with student/adults, how to receive feedback appropriately, how to give feedback to others, etc. We also believe in building relationships within our school community. As such we implemented Capturing Kids Hearts in the 21-22 school year. This program focuses on monthly character traits. As a site, we believe that all children can reach their maximum potential through a strong school-home relationship.
